My sight stops on the thin skin of water, but my weight drops.
Through mud and earth. Through stone of the tertiary age, the carbon age. Through sandstone, Zechstein. Into the hollow cellars of our anthropocene.
Layers of stone, layers of labour, layers of wealth and destruction.
